BURLINGTON, ON

On Tuesday the 13th, a group of people will gather at the Terry Fox Mile Marker, then off to Crème de la Crème for an ice cream as a reward for completing a run that started in June.

terry Fox 2021 T shirts

The T shirts for 2021 have an Indigenous theme. They will have over 200 T shirts in all sizes later this month. Again this year $20 for adult and $15 for kids. Sizes 6X, 10 in kids and S, M, L, XL and XXL for adults – unisex.

Their objective was to walk, run, hike or bike to accumulate a total of more than the 3582 km Terry had run when he went through the city.

The 12 or so team members had a financial target of $5000. At this point they have raised over $4200.

Burlington has always been Terry’s town.

The annual run, which usually takes place in September, may have to be virtual again this year. The rules the province puts in place are not as clear as they need to be for the Terry Fox group to do the planning that has to be done.

Last year the run was virtual – and they set a new total in donations.

  • I don’t know when tee-shirt design began but this looks like climbing on the Indigenous bandwagon of a grief stricken community that is finding incontrovertible evidence of the many hundreds of their children who died at the hands of those running residential homes – unless proceeds are being shared with the Indigenous community to help them to identify and honour the lives of those children?

      About This Year’s Design:

The Fox Family are proud Canadians. Like many families, they wanted to research their heritage and discovered their Métis lineage on the Gladue side of the family (Betty Fox’s mom was Marian Gladue). To honour this history, the family liaised with Métis Nation BC to create the 2021 Terry Fox Run t-shirt.

The design celebrates Terry’s heritage, with illustrations of traditional Métis floral beading created by Métis artistMal Blondeau (the Métis are known as the Flower Beadwork People.) The flowers chosen honour the land where Terry’s ancestors lived: the prairie crocus of Manitoba and the wild prairie rose of North Dakota. The Foundation’s mission – to fund cancer research – is written in English, French and the Métis traditional language of Michif, as is the phrase “Try Like Terry”, in honour of his remarkable effort. The back of the shirt includes a mouse track beadwork border with the Métis infinity symbol.
