BURLINGTON, ON
Ward 4 Councillor Shawna Stolte advised people via her Facebook page that 14,000 face masks have been donated to the city and that she is looking into setting up distribution centres.
The city administration is working on a plan.
No work on what the other Councillors are doing.
The mask initiative was Stolte’s from the get go – she brought it to the Council table in June – she had to arm wrestle with the Mayor to keep control of her project and once the two women got that worked out off they went to Regional Council learned that the city for the most part was complying with the Regional Bylaw which goes into effect on Wednesday – the city’s goes into effect on Monday.
There is a lot of toing and froing going on here.

14,000 masks being donated by Canadian Tire on Fairview, not from the $10,000.00 voted on and passed by Council to provide free masks. It will be interesting to see how long it takes staff to come up with a plan to distribute these donated masks.
Monday, July 20th is the start of this by-law. Emails from Walmart and notices on Facebook from other local retailers are telling residents that starting on Monday masks will be mandatory in their stores(something I totally agree with) .
It is unfortunate that the city has no plan in place on how to distribute this donation prior to the start of this by-law.
A special thank you to Canadian Tire on Fairview for donating these masks.
